Sun outside, artificial lighting and radiation from monitors inside. Constantly changing light conditions are often a big problem for people with prescription glasses. But where there is a problem, EssilorLuxottica comes with its most modern technological solution - Transitions® Light Intelligent Lenses™ self-tinting lenses! Why is it worth choosing them?
In the previous article, we talked about photochromic (self-tinting) glasses - these are glasses that change the color of their lenses depending on whether you are in direct sunlight or indoors. Without a doubt, this is the most convenient way of protecting and correcting vision in one.
How do self-tinting glasses work?
The self-tinting process of photochromic glasses is automatic and fast. When the glasses are exposed to sunlight, the photo-reactive chemicals in the lenses react to the ultraviolet radiation. This process causes the glass to become darker to protect the eyes from unwanted glare and the harmful effects of UV rays. When the surroundings are less illuminated again, for example when transitioning to an indoor environment, the glass will slowly return to its transparent state. Darkening takes about 25 seconds, then returning to a clear state takes about 2 minutes.
There are many types of self-tinting glasses on the market, but we always want to bring you the best. That is why on Eyerim you can find self-tinting lenses from the global optical giant EssilorLuxottica called Transitions® Light Intelligent Lenses™. How are these glasses different? Let's take a look at it.

Frequently asked questions
1) How are Transitions different from regular clear lenses?
Your classic clear lenses do a great job of correcting your vision if you have a refractive error (nearsightedness, farsightedness, presbyopia, or astigmatism). However, Transitions lenses go a step further by ensuring that your eyes are exposed to only the optimal amount of light, protecting your vision in all lighting conditions.
2) Do Eyerim Vision self-tinting lenses provide UV protection?
Transitions lenses block up to 100% of harmful UV radiation that can cause eye damage, including corneal burns and retinal degeneration. They are also useful for filtering out distracting light reflections - thanks to their ability to darken in bright sunlight, they allow you to see better and reduce the reflection of light from the surface of water, snow, road or other surfaces. This means that your eyes will be less tired and you can concentrate on important activities. The ability to filter blue light from digital devices is also a great bonus.
3) Can I add Transitions lenses to any frame?
Transitions lenses are suitable for all frames from the Eyerim range, so you can easily match the most modern eye care with your personal style.
4) Can I choose Eyerim Vision self-tinting lenses even if I don't need diopters?
The great news is that you can enjoy the benefits of Transitions lens technology even when you don't need diopters. Simply choose any frame from the eyerim menu. When choosing glasses, choose "I want glasses without diopters" and in the next step "Self-tinting (photochromic) lenses".
5) Do I still need prescription sunglasses when I have one pair of self-tinting lenses?
It doesn't hurt to keep a pair of prescription sunglasses, as they are more suitable if you are sitting outside in the sun for a long time (for example on holiday). Self-tinting glasses with Transitions lenses are not necessarily a replacement for your sunglasses, but another option to make your life a little easier when transitioning between indoors and outdoors.
